  8.      For HP 9000 Series 300 and 400 Computer Systems

  10.      The HP-UX SNA3179G software product enables the HP 9000 Series 300 or
  11.      400 running the HP-UX operating system, and the X Windows System, to
  12.      emulate an IBM 3179G/3192G color graphics display station. SNA3179G
  13.      allows interactive communications between an HP 9000 Series 300 and an
  14.      IBM System/370 or compatible mainframe using SNA communications and 3270
  15.      data stream.

  19.      The HP-UX SNA3179G can be run in two environments-
  20.      standalone and gateway. The standalone configuration provides IBM
  21.      mainframe access for a single HP-UX machine that has its own HP-UX
  22.      SNALink. The gateway configuration permits access to the IBM mainframe
  23.      from multiple HP-UX computers on a LAN. These computers generally use
  24.      a single HP 9000 computer with a Gateway/SNALink as a gateway to access
  25.      the IBM mainframe. The SNA3179G product requires HP-UX SNALink for a
  26.      standalone configuration. For the gateway configuration, the SNA3179G
  27.      product requires LAN-based access to a system running HP-UX
  28.      Gateway/SNALink. The SNALink provides the major features of an IBM 3274
  29.      cluster control unit and the lower four levels of SNA. Physical Unit
  30.      Type 2 (PU2)
  31.      is emulated, Logical Unit
  32.      Types 1, 2, 3, and 6.2
  33.      (LU1, LU2, LU3, LU6.2)
  34.      are supported. When used
  35.      with HP-UX SNALink or Gateway/SNALink, SNA3179G allows access to the
  36.      Graphical Data Display Manager (GDDM) and 3270 applications on the
  37.      mainframe, such as TSO and CMS.

  39.      Features
  40.      The HP 9000 Series 300 or 400 with SNA3179G supports host interactive
  41.      color graphics on IBM System/370 or compatible mainframes, by emulating
  42.      a subset of the features of an IBM 3179G color graphics display station.

  108.      o Efficient screen handling routines provide a very responsive and

  111.        a very useful help facility is also provided.

  113.      Functional Specifications
  114.      When SNALink and SNA3179G are used together, the SNALink emulates an
  115.      IBM 3274 model 51C cluster controller, and SNA3179G emulates a 3179G
  116.      Model G1
  117.      or G2 display.
  118.         Local screen print is available with SNA3179G through the
  119.      functionality of X Windows.
  120.      All printers supported by X Windows are supported by SNA3179G.

  128.         SNA3179G allows communica-tions with an IBM 370 or compatible
  129.      mainframe
  130.      running VM, VM/XA, MVS/SP, MVS/XA, or MVS/ESA operating systems and
  131.      ACF/VTAM through an IBM 3705 or 3725 communications controller running
  132.      ACF/NCP.

  134.      Features Not Supported
  135.      PCFile transfer capability is not included with SNA3179G. For file
  136.      transfer, either SNA3270 or SNA3770 can be used in conjunction with
  137.      SNA3179G in a separate X Window.
  138.         Other unsupported features are listed in the HP-UX SNA3179G reference
  139.      manual.

  141.      Customer Installation Responsibility
  142.      The product is customer installable. User installation aids such as an
  143.      automated installation procedure and an IBM host generation guide are
  144.      provided to simplify the process.
  145.         Additional assistance can be provided by an HP System Engineer on a
  146.      time-and-materials basis. For additional information, contact your
  147.      Hewlett-Packard Sales Representative.

  149.      Additional Implementation Assistance
  150.      For implementation needs that go beyond installation, the customer can
  151.      either provide self-support, or can purchase additional services from
  152.      HP. These services include Network Startup and HP ConsultLine. In
  153.      addition, the customer can also purchase service from HP on a
  154.      time-and-materials basis.
  155.         Network Startup includes implementation scheduling and coordination
  156.      assistance, network configuration and verification testing, and network
  157.      documentation.
